When asked about the subject of homosexuals in Iran, the president correctly avoided embarrasing Iranians with details of this sort of sordid phenomenon. Indeed, he should have laid out the reasons Iran still outlaws this kind of practice. He may have attracted some support had he done this. Obviously, he favored a conservative brsushing off of the topic and focussed his answer instead on the conditions that women enjoy in Iran i.e. that they are valued as first class citizens. "I'm not saying that it didn't happen at all," he said. "I said, granted this happened, what does it have to do with the Palestinian people?"
Speaking about Israel:
"We do not recognize that regime because it is based on occupation and racism. It constantly attacks its neighbors," Ahmadinejad said in a video news conference from New York with the National Press Club in Washington, citing recent Israeli military action in Syria and Lebanon.
"It kills people. It drives people from their homes."

It is infuriating when President Ahmadinejad speak, everyone in the West jumps on him as being mad, disillusioned, uneducated... ie. he is ridiculed mercilessly. All I've seen happen during his visit to NY is a little guy going to the USA to seek dialogue. He hasn't gone there to create war or visit war upon the US. What he's copped instead is a disgraceful display of terrible manners.
Seriously, let the man speak and let's listen closely to his words. Keep in mind also that in translating Farsi-English, plenty of meaningful nuances can be lost... all the more reason to make the effor to listen harder.
I have been to a few places in the Middle East and each time, I have been treated with respect, grace and good manners.
I hate to say it but the general abuse and disdain the Iranian President has been subjected to in recent days in NY has been nothing short of un-Christian.
Good on Columbia University for having the balls and courage under fire to host him.
He is a very intelligent person. And his comments will not be fully understood by Americans who are not informed about the complex Iranian political situation, the culture and norms in Iran. No doubt, their ignorance is caused by the US media being controlled by the zionist lobby and which is only meant to feed lies and distortion so that the crimes in the Middle East can continue unhindered. God willing, the truth will soon be more visible. An alternative media source must be sought by any intelligent person nowadays.
The whole visit has been shrouded in negativities where people who don't want to talk or listen, yell abuse instead. How can anything good come out of this situation? I'd like to see Dubya have the balls to go to Tehran and seek dialogue instead of hiding behind a phalanx of people and "official organisations".
But to be fair, I also applaud the American people (Columbia University in particular) for allowing the Iranian President to land on their soil and do what he was invited to do. I do wonder if Iran would welcome Dubya into their country? I would like to see that happen in my lifetime.
